Oil is the main source of primary energy supply in Tunisia; however the country is seeking alternatives to fossil fuels as the country’s oil reserves continue to dwindle. The country has averaged a 5% growth ever since 1997. Oil was the largest contributor in the total energy consumption accounting for 65.9% in 2009; the second largest contributor was natural gas accounting for 33.9%. Hydro is the other source of energy in the country contributing to 0.1%.
