Peru is rich in natural resources. Crude oil is the largest source of primary energy consumption in the country accounting for around 48%. The second largest source of energy for primary energy consumption is hydro power accounting for 26%. The development of the Camisea natural gas project has led to an increase in natural gas consumption in the country which accounts for 22% of the energy consumption. Coal plays a relatively minor role in the country accounting for only 3.7% of total energy consumption.
